The oxtails were fantastic! The goat was seasoned well and only very slightly tough. The jollof rice was delicious and the beef empanadas were awesome, the dough was flaky and the meat had a great spice on them. The caramelized plantains were insanely addictive. The cous cous was just “meh” but overall the meal was great. The service was friendly and inviting but the atmosphere was just ok. The chef told me I had to come back for the fish and I intend to!
I am glad I had an opportunity to try authentic Sengalese food. Everything was prepared fresh and with care. We had the Jerk chicken with plantains, fish diti, chicken diti, and paella. The portions sizes were good too. We all really enjoyed our meals. One of my friends is Sengalese and he said it was the real deal. The staff was friendly and welcoming.
I loved the refreshing ginger lemonade and my husband tried the pineapple with milk which was interesting. He liked the beef empanadas better than the fish, but that depends on what you like better. The lady at the counter said we could do a mix so we did. The jollof rice was tasty and moist. He had the oxtails and I had the fish. We will be back to try more dishes!
Overall the food from this establishment is alright and moderately seasoned. I have ordered a variety of meals such as lamb chops, roasted fish, jollof rice, and oxtail. However, the meal quality seems to fluctuate a little too much for my liking. The lamb chops I ordered on 02/25 came it somewhat charred and had a slightly bitter after taste.
This spot was perfect on a rainy afternoon. Food was delicious - I had Dakar Oxtails and an order of Beef Fatayas. Whatever sauce/stew comes with the oxtails was my favorite part, I ended up pouring it on top of everything, including the fatayas! The bissap juice was also excellent, but it's definitely for those of us with sweet tooths. I'll definitely be going back since I've heard so many good reviews about the Ceep Jen special, I have to try it!
