Man that meatloaf so good I ordered another plate for work tomorrow. Macaroni perfect and the candy yams is too, they not too sweet, they just right. Yall earned yall self a faithful customer when I don’t feel like cooking 😂😂 ima update and show the plate that’s on the way. Update: my order came and I’ll definitely be saving for lunch. They gave me a way bigger piece of meatloaf this time, and the peach cobbler was bussinnnnnn. This meal definitely gonna get me thru that 18 hr shifts tomorrow!

First timer. Before I order $35 oxtail plate, I went in to sample the mac n cheese and an appetizer which I opted for boudin egg-rolls. Price is on the expensive side however worth the high price for the dine in experience. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. Food was ready for pickup in the time confirmed. I did not like the eggroll dipping sauce I preferred a Cajun mayo blend to dip boudin. The dipping sauce tastes like sweet n sour sauce plus some red pepper for heat. Now for the big reveal the Mac n cheese. For me it was missing the top broiled crust therefore it tasted like stove top mac. It was creamy and seasoned well just missing that slight crunch from baking it. Would I pay $35 for oxtail plate ? Maybe but my husband wouldn’t allow it. I’d like to see a lunch menu with lower prices for lunch portions. I may go back without the hubby to give it a second try. I’m interested in the yams and collard greens taste. Also I didn’t recieve eating utensils so be sure to ask when you pick up your order if not eating at home.

Overall the food was good besides the cornbread under cooked in the middle but was complimentary so no harm no foul. Would definitely come back this was my third time but it had been a while. The atmosphere with the music & outdoor seating the Aesthetics were very updated modern and cute! Love that actually seen Esther walking around & working saids a lot about the business & how she conducts it ( in a positive way. All while the decor told a story of how she clearly has a passion for this & loves her family.

Esther’s Cajun Café & Soul Food is hands down one of the best soul food spots I would recommend in Houston. I recently took my mom and her best friend here for a Mother’s Day/birthday celebration, and it reminded me exactly why I keep coming back. I absolutely love the oxtails, but this visit I switched it up and got the honey chicken — so flavorful and definitely hit the spot. My go-to sides are always the cabbage and yams because they never disappoint. And if you know me, desserts matter… and theirs are always good. You can tell love goes into the food. My favorite drink is their sweet tea with lots of lemons (trust me on this 😌), and if you’re in the mood for something a little stronger, the lemon drops are tasty too. What I appreciate most is the feeling of the place. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the whole restaurant has this homey, down-to-earth vibe that makes you feel comfortable. It feels like good food and good people. They also have a private room for bigger celebrations or parties, which is a nice touch. Only small thing to note — there aren’t many bathroom stalls, so just keep that in mind if it’s really busy. But overall? Definitely a Houston staple for soulful comfort food. I’ll absolutely keep coming back.

This is my first visit to Esther's and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. At first pulling up to the location I noticed there is a lack of parking. Once I entered the restaurant they had ample seating and a very nice bar area. Also the restaurant was decorated very nicely. There's also a rather large outside seating patio with chairs fans heaters and a stage. The food is served cafeteria-style but it ends there when you talk about cafeteria it is definitely homemade soul food that looks amazing and tastes really good also I had the oxtails and the turkey necks. Both were cooked very nicely and season well but not over season and there were tender but not just falling straight off the bone they were perfectly cooked also decides we're pretty amazing too you can tell they were not rushed and they were made Just Like Home. I would definitely be back to Esther's for my next soul food Adventures
