As others have stated, the food is reasonably priced for downtown especially their happy hour menu. It was my first time visiting. We came on a Sunday and the wait was about 15 minutes with no reservation. We had truffle fries, meatballs, bang bang shrimp, tuna poke, oysters and tortilla soup as well as margaritas and wine. Everything was good. I would return again.
Great experience!! Highly recommend the Cajun Chicken Sandwich. It’s a grilled chicken sandwich with a chipotle aioli that brings everything home, very much enjoyed it. The Houston Restaurant special for lunch was running during the time I went which I felt like was a good deal. 2 plates for $25 which is hard to beat for a lunch deal with good sized portions. Jorge was our server and his was phenomenal. Great service and he made sure we was super well taken care of.
I went here for my birthday brunch. It was a small party just me and 1 other person. The host greeted us when we talked in and asked the usual questions like is this your 1st time here and welcomed us. After he sat us and told us that water and bread would be provided. As soon as he said it the bread, butter, peppered jelly and water was placed on the table. From there our server took some time to get to us. Initially I thought it was the tall waiter who kept looking at me and serviced every table around. So maybe 10 to 15 minutes passed and a young lady came over from the other side of the resturant to help us. I still found this puzzling because again the gentleman server served the table right next to us and the one behind us but not us. Anyhoo I digress. The young lady server apologized for the wait and provided great customer service. She kept coming back to check on us which I truly appreciated. The food was good and they had a Viva special going on at the time. I will be back and see if I experience the same thing but this time I made a reservation. I almost forgot the mention they had a musician there playing an acoustic guitar.
Thanks MJ for making us feel welcome for our first time. Enjoyed the happy hour... Rockefeller oysters and the old fashioned bourbon drinks were the best. Everything else was ok. Wish I would have known they had a Houston restaurant week special.
1st time visitor. Long time resident. Downtown for a meeting tomorrow. How lucky to choose the Federal American. Refreshing to see long time favorite foods on the menu. Looking around me everyone was enjoying their food, drinks and friends! The Cobb salad was fresh and just the right mix. The cornbread with jalapeno jelly...excellent! Topped off the meal with caramel bread pudding...sinfully delicious. My waitress, Yaz, was warm and welcoming...reflecting the overall good vibes throughout the restaurant. Located closest to the ballpark. Halfway between Marriott Marquis and Le Meridian. Highly recommended!
