This was our first time visiting this restaurant, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The biggest issue was the food. My oxtails lacked flavor, which was especially disappointing since they were the dish I was most looking forward to. The mac and cheese and yams were decent, but nothing memorable, and the cornbread was extremely dry. Because the restaurant was empty when we visited, it felt like the food may have been prepared days earlier, reheated, and served rather than made fresh daily. The highlight of my meal was the fried green tomatoes—they were absolutely excellent. They were well-seasoned, cooked perfectly, and showed that there is real talent in the kitchen. I truly believe this restaurant has potential, but the consistency, freshness, and overall presentation of the food need to be revisited. I hope the owners and staff receive the support they need to make the improvements necessary for long-term success. Despite this experience, I’m willing to give them another chance the next time I’m in town because I can see the potential is there.

This place is great! The food was amazing. I got wings and French toast and my husband got a Cajun butter burger. We also got some gumbo and fried pickles. The food came out so fresh we had to let it cool and everything was delicious. 10/10 will eat here again.

My first experience was not a great experience. First thing is no refunds. We walked in and the restaurant was Smoky like something was burnt. We ordered our food and had to wait (even with the disclaimer everything is made fresh and be patient) it was still a bit of a wait for things that should have been already made. I ordered the baked lemon chicken with Mac and cheese and yams with the punch. My food was not great. Mac and cheese was dry, yams weren’t cooked all the way, chicken was seasoned ok but mainly bones, rice was hard and seemed like minute rice. Cornbread wasn’t sweet. Punch was good and sweet. Someone in my party got smothered pork chops and greens and gravy tasted like flour and greens like glory out the can. The smoke in air had our eyes watering and clothes smelling like burnt smoke. Hope they get better at faster service and quality of the food for the price they are charging.

I was on another visit to Houston and was looking for a good food spot I could visit to sit and eat since I had time before catching a flight. So I stumbled across this place. Saw they had mostly good reviews and the pictures on instagram did them justice. I ordered the blackened catfish with 6 additional shrimp with red beans and rice and collard greens, although I debated back and forth between the Mac n cheese and red beans and rice. Okay so I’m going to go through my run down, why I gave 4 stars. Food: Catfish and shrimp: seasoned really well, was really, really good, just wish had a little less sauce on it though. Red beans and rice: pretty solid Collard greens: solid Cornbread: not as moist as I would like but was pretty standard in taste and make. The lady who took my order was very pleasant. The place overall is relatively clean, just was a bit annoyed as a fly kept flying around as it probably came in with the traffic of the door opening and closing. It is a small and intimate spot and like the booth table set up.

It was my first time visiting but it won’t be my last. The smell of delicious food hit my nostrils as I was walking to the front door. The service was awesome and the restaurant is very clean. I love the handwritten recipes as the artwork. It made me smile and think of my great Aunts in New Orleans. I ordered to-go, the Catfish Atchafalaya with red beans & rice and yams. When I got home and tasted the catfish with the crawfish etoufee - my tongue did a dance of deliciousness. The yams were seasoned and not overly sweet. The red beans were a little firmer than I prefer and the cornbread had a sweet but not too sweet flavor )I’m more of a savory cornbread type); but both were good. I am happy to have a soul food restaurant near me and an establishment where the food not only looks good but flavorful; and worth every dollar spent and calorie gained.
