My experience with Budget Rent a Car was extremely disappointing. I made a reservation in advance and, even so, when I arrived at the rental location I had to wait approximately one hour in line. What was most concerning is that the staff themselves mentioned that this is “normal,” especially on Thursdays and Fridays, which reflects a recurring operational problem. While waiting, they asked customers to complete information beforehand using a QR code, but the application failed and, in the end, the process was useless and did not speed up the service at all. In addition, I decided to pay extra for a “special electrical” vehicle expecting a better experience, but when I received the car I found a steering wheel that was badly damaged and patched up with electrical tape (quite disgusting), a tire with concerning damage, and several scratches. The vehicle was also dirty, including the inside of the windshield. The situation became worse when I needed to charge the vehicle to continue my trip. The charging port would not open due to a vehicle error, which caused a significant delay. I spent more than an hour speaking with Budget’s phone support and, during all that time, they never sent assistance. I eventually managed to temporarily solve the issue on my own. What was most surprising is that they did not call to follow up and check what had happened with me or the vehicle until the next day. They eventually replaced the car, but by then I had already lost more than three hours between calls, delays, and operational issues, in addition to missing the commitment I had scheduled. Beyond the poor condition of the vehicle, the most frustrating part was the lack of response and sense of urgency regarding a problem that directly affected my trip. Occasional inconveniences are understandable, but not an entire chain of failures in service, maintenance, and customer support, especially when paying for one of the special vehicle categories. Definitely the worst experience I have had with a rental car company. Update: Perhaps the most shocking part of this experience is that after their vehicle failed and left me stranded, Budget could not provide assistance, could not confirm that help was coming, and did not follow up until the next day. Now they are attempting to charge me more than $500 (for tow charges) for a problem caused by their own vehicle and for a service that was never provided. That is simply unacceptable.
Excellent experience, I messed up our reservation and the representative was so kind and helpful and getting it fixed. I got a Genesis electric vehicle and it was awesome! I could not believe how fast it charged at our Buccee’s stop on the way to Dallas. Drop off in Dallas was super easy, could not ask for more!
I have been renting cars for 30 years. Ive rented in 20+ countries amd probably 30 states. This was hands down the WORST experience Ive ever had. The line was excessively long and only 2 agents worked the counter. We were pre-booked and yet were in kine from 1253 to 210, 77 minutes. When we were given our car 3 other people were given THE SAME CAR ! So 4 people were all issued the same car so in the lot an agent tried to sort it out. We pulled out at 245pm after getting to their counter at 1153. The 2 agents were friendly and apologetic and other agencies moved faster and had more people. This seems to be a constant issue based on reviews, avoid Budget here at all costs. Costco is a partner and perhaps that has increased their rentals but they dont have the staff to keep up. 1 star is 1 too many.
The worst customer service I ever dealt with while going through this car rental. My fiancé and I waited for 3 hours and they were saying “no cars are available to rent” even though we booked the reservation couple weeks back. This is unacceptable and very unprofessional on how they handle this situation. Mind you that we arrive 10 minutes before the reservation pick up and waited from 11:20 pm to 2:30 am. I never using Budget ever again from this experience. PLEASE BEWARE BECAUSE THEY WILL OVER BOOK THE RESERVATION SINCE THEY CARE ABOUT GREED.
Flew in on a Thursday evening. The line at the counter was prob 2+ hours and went past the vending machine. I thought it was a good decision to use fast break (no counter), but when I got down there was only one car, and I couldn't take it with fastbreak for whatever reason. First person I talked just said we have no cars and nothing else. Next person came up with a car to the fastbreak area for zone 3 (my reservation was for zone 4). Luckily he told me to grab it, otherwise the wait for the next one could've been a long time. When I took it with the fastbreak link, it charged my zone 4 reservation rate. And it only had 3/4 full tank... I returned with just short of a full tank and they still charged my $36 for fuel.... Shouldve booked with Avis or Hertz, Budget more than made up for the $20 I saved with them in getting a lower car at the same rate and charging me $36 in gas when I gave them more gas than the car originally had.
