Awful. Employee attempted to charge me $75 for a pet cleaning fee based on the presence of about 15 pet hairs, which I then picked out easily with my fingers. Said I could appeal to the manager "when he returned." And when was he going to return? Our employee didn't know. Rather than continuing to argue -- Hertz policy says to charge a fee only if it takes extraordinary effort to get rid of the pet hairs -- I went to a car wash and vacuumed it out, which took all of 30 seconds because there was like 2 pet hairs left at this point. I filed a complaint with Hertz central and they agreed based on the evidence I provided that the employee would be reprimanded and provided a refund for the cost of the vacuuming and gave me "Hertz loyalty points." I have used Hertz for over 40 years and never had trouble before. This place deserves its dreadful rating. My only mistake was not noticing before I rented from it. Hertz Central: you need to pay attention to this branch. Awful ratings on Yelp and Google and my own experience are dragging your brand down.
If I could give them a zero, I would! I’ve never been charged for an extra day when dropping a car off the same day during business hours. How do you check in a car and still charge me for another day? That’s wild! I will never rent from here again.
This is the second disappointing experience I’ve had with Hertz, and after this visit, I don’t see myself renting from them again. I reserved a Tesla, but when I arrived at this South Main location, I was told they didn’t have any Teslas available and were simply going to put me in a Jeep Compass instead. If you can’t honor the vehicle customers reserve, there should at least be better communication before they show up. What made the experience even worse was the lack of customer service. The credit card I had on my reservation wasn’t the same card I had with me, so I asked if they could update it. The employee at the counter told me it couldn’t be done and that I’d have to call the 1-800 customer service number. That didn’t make sense because another Hertz location had updated my payment card without any issue. To confirm, I called customer service on speaker right there at the counter, and even they told the employee that the card could be updated at the location. Instead of solving problems, the staff’s solution seemed to be, “Call someone else,” or “Try another rental company.” That’s not the kind of service that keeps customers coming back. To make matters worse, I had already called Budget that same day because I had a feeling this reservation might fall through. Budget gave me a cheaper rate, had a vehicle available immediately, and had no issues updating my payment method. Based on my experiences, if you’re booking a same-day rental with Hertz, don’t be surprised if the vehicle you reserved isn’t available. There seems to be a lack of communication, poor problem-solving, and very little effort to help customers when issues come up. Unfortunately, this experience was enough for me. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
I had a very disappointing experience at this Hertz location. I booked directly through Hertz and expected to pay the rental price, the standard young driver fee, and liability coverage. Instead, I was told I had to purchase Hertz's Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) even though I explained that my Visa card provides primary rental vehicle damage coverage when the rental company's LDW is declined. When I questioned the requirement, the attendant was dismissive and condescending. Rather than explaining the policy clearly, I was repeatedly told, "our management does things different," and that they could simply refuse to rent me the vehicle if I declined their LDW. The justification I was given was even more confusing. I was told I needed Hertz's LDW because if I were pulled over by the police, they would ask for proof of insurance. However, police ask for proof of liability insurance, while LDW is an optional damage waiver for the rental vehicle. These are different types of coverage, yet they were presented as if they were the same, and also it would help cover their downtime, in case something happened. As a result, a rental that started at around $168 increased to over $500 for a 3-day economy car after adding LDW, liability coverage, the young driver fee, taxes, and fees. I had no issue paying the young driver fee, but I did object to being told I effectively had to purchase an expensive optional product despite already having eligible rental vehicle coverage through my credit card. I ultimately chose not to rent the vehicle. I recommend that any international tourists planning to rely on their credit card's rental coverage avoid this place and the ones around, they seem to operate an insurance scam ring.
Jeremy was awesome! He got me in and out with no problems. He was fast, friendly, and made the whole experience great. I’ll definitely be back and will be telling my friends about the excellent service. Jeremy deserves recognition and a promotion—he’s a great asset
