Honestly, I wasn't going to leave a review, but it asked me to in my notification bar. Rented here last week, with no issues, this time was told that the piece of tape on my DL would not allow me to rent. Nowhere in any literature I've seen mentioned anything other that a valid DL. I then took the tape off to show that I was just trying to prevent it from breaking. The agent then tried to validate the DL, but it fails due to the old tape adhesive. I then had to make an expensive last minute reservation at Hertz, and walk 15 minutes in 100 degree Houston humidity, getting clipped by a car whose driver wasn't paying attention 😑 I made it to Hertz, where the agents gave me something to clean the adhesive off my DL, and it was validated with no issues. I will get my DL replaced because Sixt is my favorite rental company, It just isn't today.

They charged me $1200 for a pre-existing scratch that I told the attendant about and documented using their QR code system at pick up. Edit: After a couple of calls they removed it. This rental place is full of firsts for me. Great new cars but also great new hassles.

First Lady we dealt with was very rude. She told us we would be charged an extra day for showing up an hour and a half early which must be their policy. We waited til the time we up but had to shoot off so came back the next day. Like other reviews have stated they charge you based on your flights. This is not listed anywhere and they are located downtown so I couldn’t quite understand why the flights had to coincide. I also got charged extra for picking up the car a day later but that must just have been their policy. Second Lady was quite rude at first but then ended up being nice when we matched her energy. She also changed our car to a nicer car which was at least nice hence the 2 stars. We did however have to pay an extra day because of our flights even though I booked for the day before (extra 56 usd) I get the front desk people don’t make the policy but they really didn’t want to be there or did not have much empathy. Was not until we really seemed quite frustrated she changed up a bit which was at least nice. I’m not one to be a Karen and I’m trying to see it in a fair way but I would caution people with booking through the downtown location. I have seen a lot of the 1 star reviews they have replied to but seem to not have done anything about them. I personally wouldn’t use them again as I had a much better experience with budget rentals when I was in LA as an example.

This was my first experience renting from Sixt, and unfortunately, it left a very negative impression. The African American representative who assisted me never introduced herself or greeted me. She immediately asked for my driver’s license and then simply said, “Method of payment.” The question was delivered so abruptly that I genuinely wasn’t sure what she was asking. I had to ask for clarification because she made no effort to explain whether she was asking how I intended to pay or requesting my physical payment card. A simple, professional question such as, “Will you be paying with a credit or debit card today?” would have made the interaction much smoother, especially considering that Sixt serves many international travelers whose first language may not be English. The biggest issue, however, involved the documentation required for debit card rentals. The confirmation email I received clearly states: “Paying with a debit card? Bring one of the following, matching the name and address on your driver’s license: * Two current utility or cable bills * A lease agreement * A credit card statement from the pickup state” Following those instructions, I brought my lease agreement. When I presented it, the representative told me that it was not enough and insisted that I also needed to provide two current utility or cable bills in addition to the lease agreement. I politely pointed out that the written instructions from Sixt specifically say to bring one of the following, not all of them. Rather than checking whether the policy had changed, asking a supervisor, or verifying the requirements through an internal resource, she immediately dismissed what was written in the company’s own confirmation email and insisted that her interpretation was correct. If the policy has changed, then the confirmation email and website should be updated so customers receive accurate information before arriving. If the written policy was correct, then employees should be familiar with it. Either way, the customer should not be placed in the middle of conflicting information. What disappointed me the most was the complete lack of willingness to verify the discrepancy. I wasn’t asking for special treatment—I was simply asking that the company honor the written instructions it had provided to me or, at the very least, confirm the correct policy before denying my rental. Because of the tone of the interaction and the unwillingness to discuss the discrepancy professionally, I eventually asked to speak with another representative. Even then, the original employee continued inserting herself into the conversation instead of allowing the other representative to handle the situation. I understand that everyone can have difficult days, and this review is not intended as a personal attack. However, every employee represents the company. Professional communication, respectful customer service, and a willingness to verify conflicting information are basic expectations in any customer-facing role. I hope Sixt takes this feedback seriously. Written policies should match what employees enforce, and customer service representatives should receive coaching on professionalism, communication, and handling situations where company documentation appears to conflict with what is being requested at the counter.

The car itself was excellent, and Darnie was very friendly, professional, and helpful. Unfortunately, the payment handling has been extremely disappointing. It has been almost three weeks since I returned the car in perfect condition, and I have already paid the final rental charge. Despite this, the original pre-authorization (including the security deposit) is still blocking my funds. My bank has confirmed that the authorization is still active on the merchant's side. I have contacted customer service several times via WhatsApp, but it has been impossible to get a clear answer or any real assistance. A great car and great staff on pickup, but the payment process and after-sales support have been very frustrating. I cannot recommend this company until this issue is resolved.
