The chicken is pretty darn good, easily in my top two choices in Houston. The only complaint I might have is the prices have crept up over the years making take less trips here than I would like. But that’s inflation for you. The service was good. I was served right away. The to-go orders seem to be taking a while, so keep that in mind if you don’t plan to eat-in. The sides were excellent. The Mac & Cheese was practically divine & would easily compete in any of those food competitions. The only place that might beat it would be Beecher’s out of Seattle.
Sunny was a fantastic server, took great care of us! The chicken was so delicious! The corn nuggets were fabulous! Everything was fried up nicely! Definitely our new chicken spot!
The food here matches the name! If you are looking for fresh food made to order this is your place. Sonny our waiter was super sweet. We flew from Jacksonville. Florida and he literally treated us as family. We tipped more because of his outstanding service. Thank you Sonny!!!!! Do not be afraid to try their catfish. It was next level good. Tastes like they caught it straight from the gulf. 10 out of 10
I stopped by Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken for lunch on a cold January day, and it hit the spot. The restaurant is small and unpretentious—around 20 tables with a handful of bar seats—but clean and welcoming, including spotless bathrooms. There was a steady stream of takeout orders and about six tables filled when we arrived, giving it a lively but comfortable feel. Our server, Sonny K., was fantastic—quiet, friendly, and genuinely funny, always smiling and attentive without hovering. I ordered the three-piece white meat plate with baked beans, coleslaw, and a side of fries. My wife went with the four-piece chicken wings paired with okra and coleslaw. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. They serve beer, but not an overcomplicated selection—32 oz tallboys of Bud, Bud Light, and an old-school malt liquor that feels just as classic as the chicken recipe itself. The portions were generous, and while we thought we might have ordered too much, the food was so good that nothing was left by the time we finished. A nice final touch: Sonny packed us a to-go cup for our beverages, which was much appreciated. They’ve also started serving catfish, which we didn’t try this time—but that just gives us another reason to come back. Great food, fair prices, and excellent service. We’ll definitely be returning.
First time trying Gus's, and completely surpassed expectations. Who knew fried chicken could be this good?!?! Not only was the chicken savory, crispy and juicy, the sides were equally delicious. Not only was the mac and cheese was on point, the fried okra was fresh and tasty, and the hush puppies warmed the soul. I finished off my experience with a slice of sweet potato pie and it didn't disappoint. Christian was my server and he's a fine young man, very friendly, accommodating, and a terrific host. I highly recommend Gus's.
