Visited Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken while in Houston. The atmosphere was casual and laid-back, and the service was friendly and efficient. Stopped in for takeout, and everything was solid across the board. Tried their fried chicken — crispy, flavorful, and well executed. A cool touch I appreciated was them placing slices of bread on top, which helped keep the chicken crispy during the ride home. The sides were solid as well — I especially enjoyed the collard greens. Another plus, there’s tons of parking, which always makes things easier. Overall, a reliable spot for good fried chicken and worth a return visit. Saluti.
Plenty of tables. Clean restaurants and restroom. Great food and service. Our table bought the 20 piece of mixed chicken and 4 sides. All the food came out piping hot. The manager Aaron checked on our table and made us feel very welcomed. We usually go to the one on Washington Street but the Kirby location is more accessible, friendly staff and closer.
This was my first time visit and highly suggested by a friend as some of the best chicken in town. While it was good chicken, it wasn’t without its faults. Service: Near non-existent. No order to the madness here. Doesn’t matter if you walk in first, you could be served last. If you’re not servicing people, you’re not moving tables. Then your restaurant isn’t making money it could be. There were a number of people who got up and left on our visit. One table across from us, was leaving. And then was quickly convinced to stay to place an order. Which still didn’t get their food before we left. Refills - good luck. Better speak up if you need something more or your bill. You can clearly see that it’s a packed house via the photos and videos. Which also attributes to a high echoing noise level inside when crowded. But it is well liked. However, if the service continues to lose money out the door. Won’t be long before they struggle. The chicken is the star of the show here. Definitely worth a try, however everything else food wise was canned items or pre made. Nothing special. The sweet tea was also a great addition to our visit paired well with the spice level of the chicken. It’s a one trick pony spot, and locals keeping it packed. For now. See how you like it, and if your visit is any better. Worth a stop? Not really. I’d look for a complete full package that appreciates its customers and their dollar. Until next time
I absolutely love stopping in here on my lunch breaks. I work in the medical center, and not only is the location super convenient; the food is amazing, and the service is top-notch!!! Special shout-out to my favorite member of their crew, Annette! She remembers my order and brings me my drink to the table and I sit down to my table without me even having to order it. She is a rare gem! The chicken is well seasoned and always cooked to juicy perfection. The choices for sides are all great. I typically swap the baked beans and coleslaw for fried okra and Mac & cheese, but you honestly can't go wrong with any of the options. Highly recommend trying the fried pickle spears, too! 10 out of 10 definitely recommend giving Gus's a try.
I expected big and juicy pieces of chicken but instead got small, dry portions. It tastes like the chicken was fried without batter (or very little batter) so even my dark meat combo was tough. Sides were ok and the service was excellent but not enough to bring me back unfortunately.
