My friends and coworkers have been encouraging me to try this place for a while, and I regret waiting so long! The chili oil wontons are the best I’ve had, and that’s coming from someone who has tasted some of the best in Sichuan. The size of the wonton makes for the perfect bite, and the flavors are so rich with layers of sweetness and the signature Sichuan numbing heat. As someone who loves spicy food but doesn’t have the highest tolerance, this hit the sweet spot: bold without being overwhelming. Once you start your first bite, you won’t be able to stop until you’ve finished the entire bowl! Despite the restaurant’s popularity and seemingly endless lines, the service was quick and efficient. The price is reasonable given the generous portions and premium quality ingredients. Honestly, I am still thinking about the wontons hours after the meal, and my mouth waters at the thought. 🤤 The wontons are the perfect embodiment of the restaurant’s name: 巴适 (bashi - deeply satisfying). Pro tip: if you order the chili oil wontons, you have the option to add rice or noodles; highly recommend doing so if you want to make use of the excess chili oil and need a more filling meal.

This place is such a wonderful place to grab a quick bite if you’re in downtown for work or in between activities nearby. The owner and staff are incredibly kind and thoughtful and the food is delicious, well priced and nutritious. I highly recommend this especially if you’re tired of the same few options for salad bowls or fast food and would like to incorporate some home cooked style food into your weekly lunch diet. I hope that he can expand into a brick and mortar location(s) to share his incredibly well rounded menu with more folks. Also make sure to grab a jar of his amazing chili crisp to go!

I have been coming here for over a year now. This place is so good, and I can tell the owner really cares about the quality. They have great vegan options. The vegan chili oil wontons are my favorite. The cucumber and lotus root salad is really good too with great flavor. This is one of my favorite places to eat at when I am in the area.

Great place for Chinese lunch rice bowls downtown. More authentic than I expected for downtown. Quality ingredients with reasonably authentic flavors. Price was in line with other options at Understory. Ordering was fast and efficient. Staff was friendly and were happy to answer questions. My favorite was the Honey Braised Pork Belly Rice Bowl. It has tender flavorful honey roasted pork belly balanced with steamed bok choy on a bed of rice. The eggplant sauce was delicious. I wouldn't mind a more bold mapo tofu flavor, but I understand that you're downtown. All of the bowls were well portioned for lunch. The prices are a little high but in line with the other places of this caliber downtown / at Understory. The limited menu allows them to focus on a handful of great dishes for efficiency. It looks like they have rotating specials / additions to the menu that give some variety. It's part of Understory so there's a large amount of central seating.

I want to like them but they’re just so dang salty 🥲 and this fried cod dish + ramen egg is $21!! The tomato sauce is delicious , but the fried fish was just SALT flavor and overly fried ( parts of the fish were so fried I couldn’t bite through it, even though it had sauce on it ). While the rice was extremely dry. I was just a bit disappointed bc I wanted something warm for lunch . I’ve had their pork belly and rice and that was just also overly salty. 🥲
