This was an amazing dining experience! The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere with authentic Chinese cultural decorations that make you feel like you’re in China. The Sichuan cuisine is incredibly authentic—rich flavors, fresh ingredients, and perfectly balanced spice. Every dish we ordered was excellent. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive throughout our meal. I brought my clients from California, and they were extremely impressed and absolutely loved the food and the experience. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend to anyone looking for real Sichuan cuisine in Texas!
We are regulars here and Friday’s night experience was very unpleasant. There was a wait to be seated and for the food which was totally understandable because they are busy. The food was served cold and did not taste fresh. The staff initially offered to reheat it, but after reheating, the texture worsened and the food became oily and soggy. For the dry fish pot, the waiter acknowledged it was not fresh and kindly offered to have it remade instead of simply reheating it. When the new dish was brought out, it arrived visibly sizzling hot and noticeably different in freshness compared to the first serving. The same issue occurred with the rice—it was served cold at first, but the waiter replaced it with a fresh, steaming-hot portion. While the staff tried to make things right, the initial quality of the food was disappointing. I’m not sure if it was an off day, but food should consistently be served fresh and at the proper temperature.
Always hit the spot for a homey meal. It's conveniently located at M-K-T near the trail. Occasionally, it gets crowded at night but we never have to wait for too long for a table. Some of my favorites to order and easy to share as a group: - Squirrel tail fish: interesting name but we were surprised how good it was. It became one of our favorites to order. - Spicy crispy chicken: a classic to try. - Eggplants in spicy garlic sauce - Dry pot beef - Mapo tofu: my favorite at Mala - Sizzling rice cracker pork The quality is always consistent regardless of the location. Food comes out fairly quick. Service is friendly. Mala is my favorite place to get good Sichuan food in Houston.
If you’re into flavor and spice, this is your place. The food is loud, bold, and straight-up fire. The peppercorn chicken- is wild. It’s spicy, full of flavor, and that tingly numbing sensation is addictive. Again if you appreciate flavor and spice, you'll enjoy it. Every bite hits different. The spot feels down-to-earth and all about the food. They do have lunch specials and portions are generous.
loved it! didn’t need a reservation, was able to walk right in and get seated. the music is nice and not too loud, so you can still talk. their service was amazing, everyone helped out with refilling drinks, bringing out food, and checking in. they even offered to package our leftovers. then the food - we got the spicy wontons, Kung Pao chicken, dan dan noodles and some veggies. all had amazing flavor! i don’t think you could go wrong. a bonus is that their menu has pictures of everything, so that’s always nice! 10/10 would recommend!!
