I’ve visited Blackwater Coffee Roasters around five times in the past year, primarily because it’s the closest place to me that offers matcha lattes (since I don’t drink coffee). Unfortunately, my experiences have been consistently disappointing, and I’m writing this review in hopes of improvement, or for others to know what to expect. Issues: Weak Matcha Flavor: The matcha lattes taste more like a cup of milk than a proper matcha drink. A good matcha latte should have a balanced ratio of matcha to milk—typically 1-2 teaspoons of matcha whisked with 60ml (2 oz) of hot water, then topped with 240ml (8 oz) of milk. Given their cup sizes (12–20 oz), the math doesn’t add up, and the matcha flavor is almost nonexistent. Inconsistent. Service: Multiple times, I’ve been charged for extras like vanilla or cold foam, only to receive a drink without them. When I’ve pointed this out, the staff has been dismissive or unwilling to correct the mistake. Refund Frustration: Today, my friend bought me a drink, and when we realized it was essentially a cup of milk, we requested a refund. The cashier initially refused, then reluctantly agreed but claimed it would take a week. The process was chaotic, with the cashier ignoring calls for help from a coworker and eventually handing over a similar-looking drink without the vanilla I’d paid for. And we were there when no one was around so it was not busy at all. Suggestion: Either train your staff properly on how to prepare matcha lattes and what is on the menu (and honor charges for extras like vanilla) or consider removing matcha lattes from the menu. It’s unfair to customers to pay $6.75+ for a product that doesn’t meet basic standards.
Great spot in downtown Houston for some great coffee. It’s pretty much near the very center of downtown core, so it’s walkable from every direction. This cafe is located at the floor level of a corporate building at Fannin St. Go though the entrance and go pass the elevators. It is very spacious, with multiple chairs, tables and sofas. It has a private patio area for the corporate employees assessable with a card key. As for the menu, they serve traditional styles of coffee in addition to a small seasonal signature drinks. I would recommend the latter because they are delicious and well prepared by the baristas. The Cereal Milk Latte is for you if you have a sweet tooth, probably the sweetest drink they have.
Blackwater Coffee Roasters - Downtown If you’re working, investing, or simply like to stay sharp, this Downtown location hits differently. From the moment you walk in, you feel the energy — modern, clean, focused. The space is bright and comfortable without being noisy. It’s the kind of place where professionals meet, laptops open, conversations are intentional, and the coffee is taken seriously. And here’s what truly sets it apart: the large flat-screen TV streaming live stock market news. Not random background noise — real-time financial updates. Tickers moving. For anyone who follows investments this detail elevates the entire atmosphere. It feels purposeful. Productive. Alive. Now let’s talk coffee. The espresso is consistently smooth and rich — no bitterness, no shortcuts. The baristas are knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. They don’t just make drinks — they craft them. You can taste the care. This isn’t just a coffee stop. It’s a Downtown hub — where quality coffee meets ambition, conversation, and real-time market momentum. If you appreciate strong coffee and staying informed, this place delivers on both.
I had a fantastic experience at Blackwater Coffee on 1001 Fannin. I ordered the Sumatra Americano and it was one of the best I've had! the flavor of the beans was truly amazing. The atmosphere is top-notch; the furniture is not only comfortable but also very clean and polished. I loved the lighting and the sleek, futuristic MVP coffee machine was a great touch. The entire place felt very well-maintained, from the main seating area to the sparkling clean restroom. A great spot for a quality coffee and a comfortable place to sit and relax.
