I would travel to Houston for work most weeks, and taking Bachata and Salsa lessons at Amaya Dance quickly became the highlight of my week. Salomon and Erica are phenomenal instructors who do a great job of explaining the technique behind moves, without making the class feel like a lecture. You get a bunch of practice reps in class. Also, if you started at Amaya as a beginner dancer like I did, you'll find that the challenging beginner learning curve you hear about isn't nearly as daunting because they do a great job instilling the basics and making sure progressions feel smooth. Also, the community is amazing. Everyone was super welcoming and kind. Highly recommend!!!

Amaya is a great dance studio for any level of dancer. They also have socials you can attend to to practice the dance moves you’ve been learning. It’s also a great way to meet new people.

Sal and Erica do such a great job teaching the bachata and salsa classes. Each month they start a new routine in the classes beyond the level 1 class so you’re always learning something new. It’s a big group so it’s a great set up even if you don’t come with a partner.

I moved to Houston a couple of months ago and tried several salsa and bachata studios. I chose Amaya Dance because the classes are fun and usually crowded, so you get to dance with people of different skill levels and learn faster. The instructor is very passionate about teaching, regardless of the class level — he brings the same energy to beginners and advanced students alike. This really motivates lower-level dancers to keep improving. The people are also very friendly, and it’s easy to find practice partners at social events. They host one social per month, which is always a great time!

I started going to Amaya Dance in July after signing up for a ladies styling class through Groupon, and it’s honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made. Erika is incredibly talented and intentional about creating a safe, welcoming space that promotes confidence and body positivity. She is always encouraging, supportive, and makes everyone, no matter their experience level, feel comfortable and included. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow your salsa and bachata skills and feel a genuine sense of community, Amaya Dance is absolutely the place to be.
