I’ve been attending classes here for almost three years, and Beginner Heels with Angie has been the class I’ve taken most often. Angie is a talented instructor, and her choreography is challenging, which I appreciate. My biggest piece of feedback is that I wish she gave more students the opportunity to perform after the class splits. It often feels like the same 5–6 dancers are chosen every class, many of whom are already on her team and know a lot of the routines beforehand. As a result, other students rarely get the chance to be challenged or recognized, and the environment can feel a bit cliquish. I’ve also noticed moments where students asking for clarification have been met with responses like, “Use your eyes,” which can come across as dismissive. It doesn’t always align with the welcoming, safe environment that she encourages at the beginning of class, and it has made me hesitant to ask questions myself. I haven’t attended in a couple of months, but I genuinely hope this is something that improves. There are so many talented dancers in these classes, and giving more people the chance to perform would help them grow, build confidence, and leave feeling inspired. I share this feedback respectfully because I truly enjoy the studio and hope it continues to be a place where every dancer feels encouraged and valued.
Dear Dancing Curious, As a 40 year old straight white man, dancing sober in front of strangers is a deep existential fear of mine. I think I would rather have my fingernails pulled out with needle nose pliers. But Brette Seffens Beginner Choreography class at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays has made me rethink my definitions of terror and torture. Brette is not only a dance teacher. She is a life coach. She is a comedian. She slowly but surely turns my very awkward gyrations into slightly less awkward gyrations through patience and determination. Step by baby step. Granted, the class is like 50+ people and I stand in the very back, hoping and praying that my childhood invisibility cloak still works. But I keep going back. Which I think is the point. Anyways, if you're like Stella and need to get your Groove Back (or never lost your groove and want to maintain that groove) check out SoundBox Studios. They have the tools to turn you into a Dancing Machine (TM Jackson Five) -Some Random Guy
I
Took a beginner class with Rhea. It was so fun! She was such a great instructor. I definitely left better than when I walked in.
Hip-hop dance studio that offers classes for $15 per hour. It is a good studio to improve your dance skills.
