We went to Turner’s to celebrate my fiancé and I’s anniversary. We were absolutely blown away and will be talking about this experience for a while! The atmosphere was amazing. It was like being in a secret, sophisticated, speakeasy. It was small but intimate. And completely untouched by annoying influencers. The live pianist was an excellent touch! The service was exceptional. Our waiter (I’m really bad at names) was amazing. He was very attentive and explained the menu very well. The food was DELICIOUS. We were speechless. For our starters we had the Stone crab, Beef Tartare (add caviar) and a Caesar salad. For the entrees, I got the 8oz American Wagyu Filet Mignon with crab topping and my fiancé got the 20oz American Wagyu Ribeye. We split sides of the truffle Mac and the grilled asparagus. For dessert (we barely made it, we were so full) we split a slice of the coconut cake. It was delicious and unique and had a nice touch of chocolate on top with “Happy Anniversary “ written on it. Our meal was complete with a hand written card congratulating us on our anniversary. We will definitely be back! Turner’s is AMAZING!!

We made reservations here for our 19th wedding anniversary. We didn’t realize that men had to wear suit jackets and since we drove from over an hour away we didn’t have one. The manager was sent out to speak with us and agreed to let us dine without one as an exception. We greatly appreciated it and the service, food, and ambiance was incredible. They had a signed card by the staff wishing us a happy anniversary, gave us complimentary champagne and a free appetizer. I feel like the service went above and beyond. The lobster risotto was the best we’ve ever had and we dine all over the world. The pianist played great music all evening—the vibe was very much like a speak easy. We will definitely be back!

Turner’s is truly an experience in fine dining that I’d certainly recommend. The drinks were delicious and service was excellent. For the appetizer, we had the broken arrow ranch quail and gnocchi batonnets, the waygu filet mignon for my entree and coconut cake for dessert. Every bite was sumptuous though the portions are small. The ambiance was amazing, with the most memorable part of my night being the live music from the talented musician on piano. I hope everyone gets that same lovely experience.

There are institution builders and there are institution killers. Kristen, the new manager, is certainly the latter. We have loved Turner's as one of our favorite places in Houston for many years. It has always reminded us of an old, classic, New York piano bar and steakhouse. Me and my wife met here, fell in love, and are welcoming a baby into our lives because of this place. Even after we have moved away from Houston, every time we return to the city, we make it a point to stop in at Turner's. Let's face it, the food has always been ok, but never great. But Barry, the former pianist and musical director, and the vocalists he would bring in were awesome, and the atmosphere was incredible. To our chagrin, we went there tonight to find a singer/pianist who was as soft as a mouse that she was barely audible despite singing into a microphone. The former musical director has resigned. As my wife was leaning into me, bored to death, Kirstin, the manager, had the gall to come to me and say that we cannot have her sleeping on my shoulder. "Then fix the soporific music, lady", I wished to say. But I did not say anything because I knew that she simply did not get how great this place used to be. Mr. Ben Berg, if you are listening: SAVE TURNER'S. Focus on it, instead of spreading so thin amongst various endeavors. Folks like Lupe and Juan in service are trying their best to make this place work. It was sad to see the old timers gone or leaving. For my wife and I, we will never come back as long as Kristen is there. She deserves to be a middling teacher in a school and not working in an institution like Turner's. She does not get it. Turner's will be emptier than it was before because of her. We have never felt more unwelcome as guests by a restaurant manager. And please bring Barry and great music back. Make some great food. Be the great institution you deserve to be.
