I came into Shine in the Heights after having gotten a disappointing color at my last appointment at a different place (in New York City) and came out with the best color I have ever had. Kyle was great, he listens to what you want and figures out the best way to give it to you. I love the color and the cut is so much better too. I debated even getting one since my hair had grown out a bit from my last one and was finally at the point where I was liking it. Kyle didn’t take off too much just the little bit of a trim it needed and it frames my face much better now. I’ve already booked another appointment in September to do another glaze. I honestly could not be happier. Thank you!!

Jamie has been consistently excellent! For years she has cut and colored my hair and every visit is a delightful experience. She understands how to work with my hairs texture and cuts it to suit me perfectly. Jamie is kind, patient and truly cares about her clients. Many people ask where I get my hair done, and to me, that’s the greatest testament to Jamie’s talent

I visited Shine in the Heights with a lot of excitement, hoping for a nice haircut before my vacation. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped. My appointment was scheduled for 3:00 PM, and I arrived in there parking lot at 2:56 PM, but due to limited parking I had to look for street parking. I called the salon several times to let them know, but no one answered until 3:12 PM, right before I walked in. Once checked in, the stylist assigned to me did not greet or introduce herself. I was immediately told that because I was “20 minutes late,” I would not receive a blow‑dry, even though it was 3:15 PM on my phone. I understand that stylists have schedules to keep, but the conversation was rude, abrupt, and the overall tone throughout the appointment was rushed. I showed a photo of my usual haircut and explained the face‑framing I wanted, but the result ended up uneven. My bangs were literally CHOPPED without once showing/confirming the length with me. I also noticed that other clients were asked whether they preferred curls or straight styling, while I wasn’t offered any styling options beyond the blow‑dry. A trainee kindly stepped in to blow‑dry my hair and did her best, but the final result still wasn’t what I expected. I returned to the stylist to atleast have the front evened out, but the interaction again felt tense, and I ultimately left with uneven hair. I shared my concerns with the front desk, but nothing was offered except “the manager will contact you.” I was charged separately for both the ladies.I still tipped—15% for the stylist (which I regret) and 30% for the trainee who blow‑dried my hair because I appreciate her effort. The entire appointment took over 1 hour and 30 minutes, so I’m unsure why only an hour was booked if more time is typically needed. I’m not naming the stylist because I don’t want to harm anyone personally, but this experience was extremely disappointing and not what I expected from this salon. I hope this feedback helps improve communication and the overall client experience moving forward.

Ongele is fantastic! So warm and friendly, and knew just what I needed for a trim to keep my hair healthy while growing out. She even helped set up my next appt for a special style before an event. Loved the whole experience and will definitely be back.

Kylie was wonderful! She listened to my concerns and took the time to come up with a plan that worked best for my hair and goals. She was personable and kind. My hair looks amazing! Will definitely be back again!
