I don’t usually leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience with Keyrenter Houston. Before moving out, I thoroughly cleaned the property, documented every room with photos and videos, returned the keys, and provided my forwarding address. As the 30 day deadline approached, I still had not received any update regarding my deposit disposition, so I contacted them myself two days before the deadline. On the 30th day, I was told that Texas law allowed them 30 days from the lease end date rather than from the move out date. This directly contradicted both Keyrenter’s earlier written communication and my understanding of the Texas Property Code. After I formally challenged that explanation and pointed out the discrepancy, I was asked to provide my forwarding address again even though it had already been provided in my original move out email. Shortly afterward, the disposition was completed and sent to me. The timing was difficult to ignore. The disposition was not completed until after I questioned the explanation I had been given and cited the applicable law. The disposition also did not address the separate gate remote deposit that was paid and returned at move out, and I am still waiting for clarification regarding those funds. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated issue. During my tenancy, I experienced a serious electrical problem that caused lights to flicker, appliances to restart, internet outages, and voltage warnings throughout the apartment. Despite the obvious safety concerns which under Texas Property Code should legally be addressed within typically 48–72 hours for urgent electrical hazards, it took more than 20 days to fully resolve. Keep records of everything. You may need them.
We would not recommend this property management company based on our move-out experience. Communication has been slow and inconsistent, particularly regarding our security deposit and disputed move-out charges totaling nearly $2,000. We had to make multiple requests to receive our move-out assessment and responses often took far longer than expected. Throughout our tenancy, rent was paid on time and we addressed issues professionally and cooperatively. However, when it came time to discuss and dispute charges, obtaining timely responses became extremely difficult. I have sent multiple detailed emails regarding the disputed charges and have experienced significant delays in receiving any acknowledgment or follow-up. Tenants deserve clear communication, transparency and timely resolution of deposit-related matters. Unfortunately, that has not been our experience. If you are considering renting through this company, be prepared to take a ton of photos, carefully document everything and follow up frequently!
The entire staff at Keyrenter has been extremely helpful since the day we first contacted them. From the initial property tour to the leasing process to the move-in to addressing all of the maintenance issues they have been very friendly and professional. Our rental experience has been GREAT!!!!!
Extremely unprofessional and useless property management company. I would never rent through keyrenter, because if you ever need maintenance they will charge you just to send somebody to assess the issue. They use 3rd party vendors in the sense that they are helping you, but they are actually entirely useless. It would be easier for you to seek out your own help for maintenance. Before moving into my unit my apartment was not cleaned, and upon move out they charged me HEFTY fees for cleaning..which they did not even do for me in the first place as a renter. I had an awful experience dealing with this company whether it be extreme unprofessionalism, absurd fees, or just trying to get any kind of assistance.
The maintenance tickets I’ve submitted rarely get addressed promptly, and I never receive timely updates. I’m still dealing with the same ongoing issue after over six months, and the ticket was closed without any explanation. 8/6/2026 update- issue still unresolved.
