Aside from the incessant profanity by the folks sitting next to me, we had an exceptional dining experience at Kira. The donburi were freshly prepared and the rice was perfectly made. The handrolls were fantastic and unique - I especially liked the hotate. The sea bass crudo was unique and the sauce was so delectable. And the coconut mango dessert was a perfect balance of sweet with a touch of salt. What a memorable meal! Waitstaff and chefs were so nice and friendly. We will be back!
So so so so good. Would definitely recommend this to friends and would consider coming back. The staff - Danny and chef Frankie were the best. Very friendly, took the time to chat with us, shared their experiences, gave us recommendations, explained what goes into our orders and was attentive to our needs. We ordered a couple of items and these items DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We ordered the "Alive" cocktail, scallop crudo, chirasi donburi, the tuna donburi and the raspberry shaved ice (you dont want to miss that). Everything was delicious. The miso soup that came with the donburi had a smokey flavor to it and was very different with other miso soups we have had. Scallop crudo melts in your mouth. Fish in our donburi were fresh. Shaved ice had all the textures and flavors tied together nicely. We were told that there are promotions everyday like sunday has $10 cocktails and Wednesdays has a special price on the wagyu donburi. We will definitely come back to try the wagyu donburi! All in all, 5 plus stars. Everyone should try it! Call to make reservations or check on availability beforehand since the seating is all at the counter and may be limited during busy hours.
I highly recommend the lobster, spicy tuna, and fatty tuna handroll. They also have great vegetarian options and the avocado handroll is my favorite. I alternate between the negitoro and chirashi rice bowls during my visits. For dessert, their raspberry kakigori has been on the menu since they opened almost two years ago for good reason. The chefs and front of house staff are personable and welcoming. They are passionate about what they do and are open to feedback.
We ordered the chef’s selection for two, and it turned out to be one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. Everything felt intentional, from the atmosphere and vinyl music to the presentation and quality of each dish. The chefs were incredibly professional, and you could tell a lot of care went into every plate. Our waiter was just as welcoming, attentive, and genuinely added to the experience. This was something memorable. We’re still talking about it days later and already looking forward to coming back
Highly recommend visiting Kira in Houston. I had the lunch tasting and the scallop crudo was the highlight of my meal. The quality was fresh and the spicy tuna handroll paired with their chili crisp was a perfect combo. Finished with the matcha kakigori, but liked the raspberry one more. Besides the food, they have a modern vinyl collection and great service. Excited to visit again.
