Great food and service. I enjoyed the à la carte… eat as much or as little as you want. Staff is super friendly.
The food and service were excellent. My favorites this evening were the sake toro aburi and otoro nigiris, tofu karaage (with the lemon slice), and taiyaki and charcoal ice cream desserts. The taiyaki was especially delicious on my opinion as well. Parking was a struggle when it’s busy, but it was definitely worth the trip. I really recommend putting in a reservation because it’s an intimate setting of only 23-seats.
The selection, atmosphere and presentation was wonderful! However, the rice was a bit starchy (needs more rinses) or maybe the quality should be improved. The fish also did not taste as fresh.
The parking lot is pretty small and there’s no valet, so it’s a little tough getting in and out. They also seem to limit how many people they seat, so reservations are probably a good idea. I came here for my birthday and the service was honestly pretty mid. It was a little disappointing because the atmosphere gives off a more upscale vibe, but the service didn’t match that at all. We weren’t welcomed or asked if we were celebrating anything, which I kind of expected. I also had a few questions about some of the dishes and the server couldn’t really answer them without going back to ask. He didn’t seem very familiar with the menu or aware of any birthday/celebration options, which made the whole experience feel a little underwhelming. With the limited seating, I expected a more personal experience with the chef, like at least a little show cutting the fish or making it in front of you but I didn’t really get that. They didn’t really explain the dishes in detail or share anything about the restaurant, like the meaning behind the paintings or design. I did the 6 course meal and added on scallop, cucumbers (sunomono), chutoro, otoro, and the savory taiyaki from the à la carte menu. I also tried two drinks, the pandan and the yuzu matcha. The meal started with the Popeyes salad topped with a bacon dressing, I’d give it 4 stars. Next was the kanpachi crudo, which had a really refreshing yuzu flavor with coconut jellies that paired well, 5 stars, definitely a must try. The wagyu lumpia came out next and that was crispy on the outside with a rich, savory filling, also 5 stars. Then came the fish flight- suzuki sea bass and madai butterfish. Each one had unique flavors that I haven’t really had before. The fish itself was fresh and had a silky texture, but some of the flavors didn’t really hit for me, so I’d give that 4 stars. I also think they use brown rice, which is interesting and I actually liked that twist. The uni was next and that was super buttery and melt in your mouth, 5 stars. After that was the Cornish hen, which was really tender and filling. It came with a broth that elevated the dish, but the potatoes on the side had a mustardy dressing that didn’t really pair well, in my opinion. For dessert, I had the pistachio molten lava cake. It was a little too rich for me, kind of like a Dubai-style dessert without the chocolate or kanafi, 3 stars. They also gave me an extra dessert for my birthday, so I tried the coconut ice cream with wasabi jelly. Surprisingly, it didn’t taste like wasabi at all and was actually really good, creamy, light, and refreshing. That one was 5 stars. For the add-ons, the cucumbers had a nice spicy and sour kick, 4 stars. The otoro and chutoro were fresh with good quality fish, also 4 stars. The scallop was next level and my favorite out of everything. It was perfectly seared and had that velvety, melt in your mouth texture, I highly recommend it. The savory taiyaki was really unique, kind of hard to describe, but it comes with a smoked butter that adds a lot, 4 stars. For drinks, the pandan (alcoholic) was way too strong and overpowered the flavor, 2 stars. The yuzu matcha (non-alcoholic) was bright and refreshing,I loved it, 5 stars.
Love, love, love. We had more than pictured, however there was not an item that we did not love. Would 10/10 recommend for a cozy date night. Service was fantastic and the overall experience was phenomenal.
