Great AYCE lunch deal for $20. Nice atmosphere with 80s music playing. My server, Breanne, was super friendly. The other staff that helped run food were also quick and friendly. I started with the miso soup and edamame. Both were super fresh and steaming hot. Then I ordered the shrimp and broccoli tempura. These were also super hot and fresh. I then got an order of the gyoza, and they were hot but not that flavorful. The chicken teriyaki was pretty good, too. Now to dive into the sushi… California roll was nice and clean. It’s funny how a simple roll like this can get messed up sometimes, and I always like to see how a place does it. Nicely done here. Breanne recommended the Double Crunch Roll, and it was also very good. I finished off with the Mexican roll. I assumed it would have a Mexican style to it (maybe some jalapeño or pico de gallo), but it was a shrimp tempura and an avocado wrapped in some rice. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was a shrimp tempura roll. Either way, it was fresh… just not what I expected. Overall experience I’d give a 8.2/10. I recommend it for the dollar amount, the freshness and quick service.
Great location! Having been to the other two of their locations in houston. Serverwas very attentive. Their double crunchy roll was surprisingly good. Goyoza snd tempuras were very fresh and crispy!
Overall the place was pretty good. I personally really enjoyed the yellowtail jalapeño. However the tuna tataki felt off. The flavor of the tuna was bad and the cats were rough and had really tough bits. Everything else was pretty good but I would avoid that one item. Service was good with the server bringing out items quickly and allowing us to order frequently. We ended up eating around 100 pieces of sushi and a bunch of other stuff from other parts of the menu.
I get skeptical of all-you-can-eat restaurants where you have to order more food because some places can seem purposely slow to make sure you can't eat as much. Happily not the case at all here at Sushi Masa. I had a group of 10 (kids and adults) for lunch with everyone ordering AYCE and our waiter Tommy was on top of everything. He got orders in fast and had the table cracking up at his jokes. It was a great first experience at the restaurant. Food came out fast too. Some of the food options were more limited of course with AYCE, especially with the sushi rolls, but it's still a great deal at the price. Because there are a lot of cooked rolls too, it's great for people who can't eat raw fish. Fried tofu, fried mushrooms, chicken skewers were great too. And there are ice cream options for dessert. Definitely a place I'll add to my regular rotation. If you have a reservation make sure you're on time and with at least half your party or they won't seat you. Edit: Originally I rated 5 stars for everything but service hasn't been as good on subsequent visits; empty plates weren't cleared in order to make space for new food and we eventually put them on an empty table when no one came by to take them
EDIT: On a recent visit to Sushi Masa, I want to mention that Sochi was the MVP of the evening! We hope to dine there again and have her cater our evening. Sushi Masa is the best premium sushi buffet in Houston, hands down. The quality of the fish and the variety of options are unmatched, especially for the price point. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a fantastic atmosphere that makes dining here a real pleasure. The staff are all great and very attentive, which makes the experience even better. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent sushi experience. Edit: Giving props to Jacob as his service he provided was above, beyond, and exceptional!
