I must say ā€œ it’s better to respond than to react. This was my first time at the Houston Eye Doctor. The Doctor was top notch , and very personable and everything my 80 year old sister said he was. However I was alerted earlier that I was ā€œout of networkā€ after I first got confirmation that I was covered. Well I did what any red blooded America would do!! I went off without getting accurate information. But I am grateful and thankful that the staff reached out to me and showed me the error of my ways and the error of my insurance company who is not on their grind. It is people that would take the time to see a concern and address it immediately. I came to realize I am covered and hopefully I’ll be able to pick up me some fresh glasses. Kudos to the doctor and staff that didn’t judge me, but addressed my concerns a was empathetic to my plight.

Update: I contemplated quite some time before updating my initial review. Because of this very instance, I typically do not leave reviews until after I’ve had multiple experiences with a business or product. However, to cease the notifications, I left my initial review prematurely. After leaving my first eye exam, I realized that I wasn’t offered the option of ordering contacts or eyeglasses in Dr. Mordi’s office. So I placed a 90 day supply online via Costco. Upon the first day of wear I noticed that my vision was blurry/unclear. In case it was as a matter of getting adjusted to the new prescription, I wore them for a week, but found myself removing the contacts midday to wear my old eyeglasses because my vision was so poor with the new contacts. After a week, I notified Dr. Mordi’s office and returned for a reassessment. To my surprise, Dr. Mordi did not perform another eye exam. He simply asked me what my old prescription was, from my previous optometrist. I knew it by memory and told him, to which he replied, ā€œWell we’ll go with that then.ā€ I kindly expressed to him that I was not in a hurry and could sit for a reassessment eye exam to be sure that the prescription was correct this time. I also gave him the 90 day supply of contacts I’d ordered that were now obsolete, and expressed that I didn’t want to waste any more funds on an inaccurate prescription. He stated that he didn’t need to re-examine my eyes and that since my old prescription was better than the new one he’d performed, he would write a new prescription identical to my old prescription, again from my previous optometrist. I expressed my uneasiness with his decision, yet he assured me that it would be fine. When his office emailed me the ā€œupdatedā€ prescription, it wasn’t updated. It was the inaccurate prescription from my first, and technically, only eye exam with Dr. Mordi. When they finally emailed the newly written prescription it was only for contacts, not eyeglasses, for which I scheduled and paid. After much back and forth, I was told Dr. Mordi ā€œclarified that while the contact lens prescription was adjusted, your glasses prescription remains unaffected and does not need to be updated at this time.ā€œ Needless to say, I was not assured by this experience, and withheld ordering more contact or eyeglasses before returning to my previous optometrist for a true, updated eye exam. I’ve never had a subpar experience with my previous optometrist of several years. I only attempted to switch because my optometrist is still my only healthcare provider who is not Black. Sadly, the search continues. First review: My first experience with Dr. Mordi and his team was wonderful. I’m a firm believer that the patient/client experience begins before the actual in-person encounter, and mine was great. From scheduling over the phone to frequent text communications, I was impressed before meeting Dr. Mordi. In person, he and his team were so warm, personable, professional, and accommodating. Dr. Mordi has an appropriate sense of humor, making for a great ice breaker. The waiting area and hallway could use some light and freshness, but that didn’t cloud my overall first impression. I’ve been searching for a Black optometrist, and I’ve found him. I will be back.

I’ve passed this place going to the post office numerous times. My daughter needed a referral and I suggested this provider. After accompanying her for the visit, I became a patient. Dr. Mordi and his staff are very welcoming, attentive, helpful, thorough and amazing! My only regret thus far is that I didn’t give this provider a chance years ago!
