Christie's Seafood & Steaks in Houston still does old-school Gulf seafood better than anyone, and our family dinner proved it. I had the ginger soy salmon. Glazed, flaky, not overcooked, with a lemon wedge and a side of garlicky sautéed spinach that actually tasted like spinach. My dad went classic with the stuffed shrimp and onion rings plate, two big crab-stuffed shrimp, three golden fried shrimp, and thick-cut rings that stay crispy all the way through. He worked through the cocktail and tartar and loved every bite. Each sister's plate was spot on. One had the seafood platter with a huge piece of fried catfish, fries, a couple fried shrimp and a stuffed crab on the side, exactly the kind of combo Christie's is known for. The other had the baked seafood in foil, bubbling, buttery, loaded with crab and shrimp, rich and comforting. Service was fast and warm, and it was nice to talk to Maria and see Roula again. That personal touch is why this place feels different. It's one of Houston's oldest spots, and stepping in feels like stepping back in time, but the food remains consistently great, and locals will tell you the fried shrimp and seafood platter are some of the best in town. Five stars, easy. We left full, happy, and already planning the next visit.
This was my first time eating at Christie's. As a native Houstonian, I don't know why I waited so long to eat here. The food was good. The staff is attentive and friendly. I enjoyed my Greek style grilled red fish and spinach. For an appetizer, I tried the fried crab 🦀 fingers. They were okay, I think sautéed would have been much better. I will definitely be back with friends and family.
Had an amazing dinner at Christie’s! The food was outstanding from start to finish. We started with the calamari and fresh salads, and the warm rolls were the perfect touch. For the main course, the blackened shrimp pasta was perfectly seasoned and the fried seafood platter was fresh and crispy. We topped it all off with a delicious dessert. On top of the food, the service was top notch attentive and friendly. This place is a classic for a reason. Highly recommend!
I have to admit I was a little disappointed. I appreciate places that are local favorites that have been around a while, but Christie's struck me as one of those places trying to survive on its reputation (of years ago). Our raw oysters were ok, but not very flavorful. The shrimp was decent, but the stuffed crab was very dense and doughy, and seemed to be devoid of any crab. The catfish, however, was fresh, tasty, and the breading was perfect. Honestly, even if I lived closer, I don't think I'd return.
Christie’s is our families favorite seafood place in Houston and hasn’t let us down. We were most recently there on the Saturday of Father’s Day weekend. We all ordered the fried shrimp with sides of fries and coleslaw. It all hit the spot. Our servers were also very attentive and responded quickly to our requests. Christie’s still stays among our favorites!
