Visited Candente while in Houston. The atmosphere was lively and bustling, making it easy to see why this place is so popular. The service was good throughout the meal. We did have to ask for a bit of cleanup around our table from the previous guests, but considering how busy the restaurant was, it wasn't a major issue and was taken care of promptly. The food was very good and lived up to expectations. My only disappointment was the Bloody Maria, which wasn't seasoned properly and lacked the balance and depth of flavour I was hoping for. Overall, a fun, energetic spot serving very good food, with just a few minor details keeping it from being an exceptional experience. Saluti.

Solid Tex-Mex spot that delivers where it counts. The service was genuinely kind and impressively quick even during a busy stretch…that combination is rarer than it should be. The portions are generous. Brandon’s nachos were loaded – braised meat, melted cheese baked right into the chips, pickled red onions, crema, and diced white onion. A real plate. My enchilada combo came smothered in chili gravy and melted cheese, served with refried beans, Spanish rice, guacamole, and a crispy taco the full spread. Comfort food done right. The atmosphere matched the food: warm, lively, unpretentious. The kind of place that feels like a neighborhood staple even if you’re visiting for the first time. Would definitely go back.

Came here for dinner with the wife and ordered the Tacos Birria de Res and my wife had the Spinach, Mushroom & Poblano Quesadilla. They were both FANTASTIC. My tacos were so delicious, and the meat was tender, savory. The birria sauce was a perfect complement to them. My wife’s quesadillas was also really tasty. Highly recommend this spot!

We went to Candente and really enjoyed it—honestly, we would definitely go back. We were seated pretty quickly, and our waiter Hector was so kind and helpful from the start. We had some questions about the specialty dishes, and he took the time to thoroughly explain each one and even shared his personal favorites and why he likes them, which really helped us decide. The food was AMAZING. I’ll be honest, I was a little worried at first that I wouldn’t get full, but the portion sizes were actually perfect. Hector was also very attentive throughout our meal, making sure we were enjoying everything and keeping our drinks refilled. I also really appreciated the small moment of connection we shared being Mexican—it made me feel more comfortable and added a nice personal touch to the experience. He was genuinely so kind 🥺 and at the end of the meal he told us that next time we come in, we should ask for him and he would give us a free dessert on him, which was so sweet. Overall, everything was great—the service, the food, the music, and I really liked that we could see the cooks preparing the food too. Such a good experience overall :)

While visiting friends in the area, they wanted me to try local Tex-Mex, so we stopped by Candente on a Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. The restaurant was moderately busy and we were seated right away. Our server quickly brought warm complimentary chips and dips. We ordered the guacamole (which was outstanding — one of the best I’ve had) along with smoked chicken flautas, portobello and peppers fajitas, and the #1 Botanás sampler (ground beef nachos, chicken flauta, smoked chicken quesadilla, and guacamole salad). Everything was delicious and full of flavor. My two suggestions would more crisp on the quesadillas, they were a little soggy and coordination of shift change since we had to flag down our new server. We also ordered a flan to go and had it later. It was a generous portion, more than enough to share! I’m so glad my local friends introduced me to this spot — great Tex-Mex! Highly recommend.
