It's been 37 years since we were at this restaurant. We were there when it was the original owner. We finally had a chance to go back!! Although it's new owners, nothing has changed except some renovations to the building. The food is still fantastic and of course the service and atmosphere are very authentic. We highly recommend this place for authentic Mexican food!!

Friendly Mexican restaurant where we had excellent veggie chimichangas and frozen margaritas. Their late hours and many tables make it an accommodating stop after a day at the nearby Menil galleries. There is a free parking lot behind the building with the entry drive to the left of the building.

Chapultepec Lupita never misses! We ordered the tacos al carbon and the Chapultepec platter and wow — both were amazing. The tacos were smoky, tender, and full of flavor, while the platter was the perfect way to sample a little bit of everything. Portions are super generous, so come hungry! We topped it off with sopapillas and honey to seal a perfect date night. The vibe is fun, relaxed, and very Houston — you can tell this place has history and heart. Service was quick and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for solid Tex-Mex with flavor that keeps you coming back, this spot is it. Can’t wait for the next visit!

I have been coming to this restaurant for decades and have always recommended it to friends, family, and even visitors from out of town. Unfortunately, my most recent experience completely changed how I feel. While dining with tourists, I spoke to my server in Spanish and mentioned that the manager (the gentleman who approached our table) came across as rude after telling us the restaurant would be closing in 30 minutes. I wasn't refusing to leave—I simply expressed that I felt his approach was unnecessarily disrespectful. Shortly afterward, I was told I had to leave and that the restaurant had the right to refuse me service. I began recording the interaction and asked for clarification and any posted policy that explained why I was being removed, but none was provided. When I returned later to seek further clarification, a cook came outside and told me I was trespassing, despite no formal trespass warning having been issued to me. What hurt the most was how differently I felt I was treated. After years of being a loyal customer, I left feeling singled out and disrespected. From my perspective, my experience raised serious concerns about how I was treated, and I cannot ignore that. If management truly values its customers, I encourage them to review the video and audio from this incident, as well as any security footage, and hold staff accountable where appropriate. I also have my own video and audio recordings documenting what occurred. I sincerely hope no one else has an experience like mine. I will be reporting this to the BBB and the restaurant to the food health and safety. The smells alone should get this place shut down.

It’s the kind of place you genuinely enjoy dining at, thanks to the delicious food and the relaxing atmosphere. The service is warm and attentive and portions are generous. You're welcomed with chips and salsa as soon as you're seated, which is a great touch. Even though the restaurant is often quiet, depending on the times you go there, the calm vibe makes it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a good meal.
